Discussion:
[wpkg-users] SMB settings for Windows 1803 vs Linux

Hi

We had the same issue with a different setup (Debian server accessing a windows 2016 server share). Handshake did not work.

After some tests, best solution was:
smb.conf
[global]
client min protocol = SMB3
client max protocol = SMB3

Best
Daniel

Hi,

Marco,

When I remove "Max Protocol", Windows 10 1803 does not access Samba. Note that I performed a Windows installation through ISO, and it was not through the upgrade from 1709 to 1803.

Silver,
I also checked this (after sending the email). I am only in doubt if this is the best solution (thinking about security)

Thanks for your response.

You should remove the "max protocol" from the Samba config.
Samba and Windows will do a handshake and use the best protocol.

On my site, WPKG works as it should with Window 10 1803.

Hi!
I am using a Windows 10 v.1803 PC and wpkg is not working.
Initially, I was unable to access the share, which was resolved by
smb.conf
? ? [global]
????? ??? ??max protocol = SMB2
Then I was able to access the share, but wpkg does not start. The wpkg
log files are saved on this Samba server. I noticed that if I remove the
logging option from wpkg, wpkg works normally.
Anyone have this problem?
How to solve?
Thank you very much.

Strange, but good to know.

My setting is a Windows 10 (1803 clean install) to a Debian Jessie Samba
Server, without the protocol settings. I can not restrict to SMB3 only,
because I have all flavors and versions (XP,7,10) of Windows accessing
WPKG on the samba share.

smbstatus shows the protocols NT1, SMB2_10, SMB3_00.

Could be, that I have some "cryptic" GPO settings in my domain, which
make this work. I am to lazy to find out which GPO it could be :-)

Just for completeness, I install Windows ((XP), 7, 10) via network boot.

Greetings ...
Marco
